Although there is minimal information from Big Bob Gibson Barbeque (BBG BBQ) website on Bob the person, is seems like Bob was a dead-set legend!

Bob started his restaurant in 1925: though it couldn’t really be called a “restaurant” back then. According to the BBG BBQ video (below) Bob (who was indeed “big”) started cooking and selling Barbeque for the neighbourhood whilst he still worked the railroad.

Sooner or later, he quit his job; his daughter opened up the restaurant and sold their unique, Alabama classic - BBQ white Sauce fort BBQ Chicken and Pork!

Big Bob Gibson started a family barbecue restaurant tradition that has lasted has lasted over 80 years and 4 generations. Three things contributed to his success; his delicious food, that tangy White Sauce, and his charismatic personality. “Big Bob Gibson never met a stranger,” said Mattie Johnson, an employee for over 50 years.

Today, there are two BBG BBQ restaurants in Decatur, Alabama; half-a-dozen sauces and rubs for sale; and hundreds of awards and commendations.
