The Buchanan Emendation
These are my personal (but as-yet-undisputed) opinions |
Clan buchanan is
One of the oldest clans in history
More-or-less the 5th largest highland clan
Located right on the highland border
In the dead centre of Scotland, on fertile lands
Next to the two largest cities in the country
Signatory to the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320
At cornerstone battles in history
(from the of Battle of Baugé in 1421 to the Jacobite uprising of 1745)With documented links to King Robert the Bruce (plus heraldic confirmation)
But there is seemingly NO reference to any Buchanan in any official history of Scotland or England
Which leads me to hypothosize that Buchanans were actually struck from Scotlands history books. Retrospectively removed. White-washed. Purged. GoldenAge cancel-culture.
In 1745 Francis Buchanan ("the Buchanan of Arnprior"… and a likely contender to be new chief of clan Buchanan) was a very public supporter, armorer and treasurer of the Jacobites. After Culloden, government forces spent several weeks searching for rebels, killing all who they thought were Jacobites: Francis was executed; his seat was confiscated; lands were seized; artifacts destroyed; wealth distributed.
But given the profound vacuum of Buchanan references I believe that clan Buchanan was particularly targeted by the Government. And actively removed from history books.
I do not assert that our clan was alone in this punishment.
But, I do believe that we were targeted.
And without a chief; and proceeding widespread emigration; there were no counter-measures (even as Proscription laws were appealed 40 years later).
Were we targeted? Were we pressured to leave Scotland?
And was the name Buchanan removed from Scottish history?
But, of course. I have no proof.
Thats the point of an effective purge.
So, what I am asking all clansmen and Wardens:
Help me find us the proof!
