Thanks for clicking that link,
It means you’re probably already a member of clan Buchanan
We’re one of the pre-eminent highland clans of Scotland, encompassing over 50 names and associated families, now in every corner of the globe.
If you’re new to Scottish heritage, customs and the Buchanan history, please browse this site: we promise you’ll learn something.
If you feel like our clan presence has been a little, er, lack-luster - you’re right! But there’s a good reason behind it:
In 1682 the then chief died without heir and in debt. So lands were sold and we’ve been without a chief for 300 years
We have a curious entomology because our name was taken from a piece of land (granted to Absalom of Buchanan, in 1225) and so as a clan we are comprised of many smaller families, rather than one large one.
Due to cultural and economic hardship, the majority of the clan was spread away from Scotland, especially to the US
But, these issues have all been addressed:
We now have a chief, soon to be formally inaugurated (Covid permitting) to provide commitment and focus
The CBSI is working hard to highlight our relevance, through communication and action to support clansmen and women
This website and dedicated wardens (active members), working to promote clan goals; transcending borders.
If you’d like to learn even more, please join us! As a warden of the clan you receive:
Access and camaraderie to other members, worldwide
Quarterly newsletter, with updates on historic revelations and cultural interpretations
Access to Buchanan genealogy archives
You’ll be supporting us on our goals to preserve and share our culture, for the next generation and beyond
and the pride of calling yourself a Warden of the Clan
